Charity shops
Charity shops can usually take a whole range of items that are in good condition; clothing, bric-a-brac and even electricals*.

Library of Things
Library of Things are community-run services where you can borrow items that are used on an infrequent basis such as hedge trimmers, drills or sewing machines for a small fee (through membership).
There are also toy libraries where you can hire toys and more informal beach toyboxes.
