Reuse and repurpose

• Instead of buying new, consider what you can reuse or even repurpose.
• You might not need new cupboard doors; a lick of paint can see them looking better than ever.

Avoid paint waste!

• Minimise wasting paint by measuring the area that you are painting and following the ‘coverage guidance’, it can be a bit tricky but try and get this as close as you can.
• Instead of cleaning your brushes each time you take a break, try wrapping them in a plastic bag until you need them again.
• Ensure the paint is kept in the correct conditions so that you can use it to touch up later.
• If you do end up with paint left over you could donate it for reuse, to a local community group, charity, art college, amateur dramatic society, neighbour, work colleague, relative or friend.

Having the right tools for the job

• Instead of buying new DIY equipment that you may only use once or twice, why not borrow from a friend or relative? Alternatively, borrow from a local Share Shed or Library of Things in your area or look online for options to hire it.
• If you are going to purchase tools and equipment, check out your local Recycling Centre Resale Shop or have a look on websites such as Gumtree, Preloved, Freegle or Freecycle. You may be able to find the perfect tool for the job at a fraction of the cost.
