Devon's recycling performance

Devon is striving to meet challenging recycling and landfill diversion targets, which have been set by central government.

National targets have been set, by the UK government in its Waste Stratagy 2007, as follows:

• recycling and composting of household waste – at least 40% by 2010, 45% by 2015 and
50% by 2020
• recovery of municipal waste – 53% by 2010, 67% by 2015 and 75% by 2020.

Since the partnership was formed, Devon has been continualy improving its recycling rate and the amount of waste diverted from landfill.

Devon has set itself some targets, even more challenging than those set by central government. The chart below shows these targets and the county's current progess towards these.
